How Long Is the Florida Divorce Process?

Thu Dec 11, 2025 Divorce

A divorce proceeding, which is also called a dissolution of marriage in Florida, can typically last around 1 year to 18 months from the time it is filed, depending on the court’s availability.

What if the Divorce Is Contested?

If the divorce is contested, and depending on the issues involved, the nature of the dispute, the judge’s calendar, and other issues involved in the proceeding, this could make it a shorter or longer time frame.

What if the Divorce Is Uncontested?

On the other hand, if the parties are able to arrive at a settlement agreement on their own, which the judge approves, the parties could be divorced as early as 20 days from the initiation of the proceeding.

In many cases, assuming that the parties own property and have children, after the parties have had an opportunity to exchange financial disclosures, a case could typically take around three to six months. If you have more questions regarding this or other issues, please call us, and our Florida divorce lawyer will be happy to talk to you and provide you with more details.
